What:
The public is invited to learn more about how robots are increasingly used in surgery to help improve patient outcomes and reduce costs associated with recovery following surgery.
Fairview Southdale Hospital and Intuitive, the maker of the da Vinci®, a sophisticated surgical robot used by doctors to perform minimally-invasive medical procedures, will showcase the robot at a public event this weekend at the Galleria in Edina.
The da Vinci robot is increasingly used to perform complex surgeries that include prostate or ovary removal as part of cancer treatment, or heart valve surgery for heart conditions. It is breakthrough technology that allows patients a faster recovery, a shorter length of hospital stay and less pain.
When and where:
Saturday July 19, 2008, 10 a.m.– 4 p.m.
Galleria, Edina
Who:
Consumers can “test drive” the robot and experience first-hand what it is like to perform surgery using a robot. Surgeons trained to use the technology at Fairview Southdale Hospital will be on hand to answer questions and demonstrate how they use the robot in surgery.
