Fairview Southdale Hospital has received the "Gold Seal of Approval™" for vascular care from the Joint Commission. We are second in the nation to receive the accreditation, and the only facility to be recognized in three categories: peripheral vascular disease, abdominal aortic aneurysm and carotid stenosis, all potentially life-threatening conditions. Our physician partners include Minnesota Vascular Clinic, a partnership of Surgical Consultants and Surburban Radiology.

Vascular Screening Program

Ultrasound testing can find early signs of vascular disease, which can ultimately lead to stroke and heart attack.  The Fairview Southdale Hospital Vascular Screening Program can help you learn if you may be at risk for peripheral artery disease or other conditions relating to arteries and veins. Conditions we treat

Vascular diseases can cause severe pain, stroke, heart attacks and even death. Our surgeons are experts in treating:

• Abdominal aortic aneurysms: a weak spot in your aorta that bulges or expands and is at risk of bursting
• Peripheral arterial disease (PAD): common circulatory problem in which narrowed arteries or arteries blocked by plaque reduce the blood flow to your limbs
• Carotid arterial disease: hardening or narrowing of the arteries in your neck that bring blood to the brain
• Deep vein thrombosis (DVT): formation of a blood clot in one of the veins leading to your heart

Patient Education

Fairview Southdale Hospital offers classes to help you understand and reduce your risk for artery disease. These classes are taught by nurses, dieticians, pharmacists and cardiac rehabilitation therapists.
