Protect your life and limbs
We welcome the opportunity to partner with you in protecting your health through the Fairview Southdale Vascular Screening Program. Early detection and prevention of vascular disease saves lives and enhances quality of life.

Artery disease is often silent and, without symptoms, plaque can narrow or weaken arteries.

Screening can help you avoid:

  • Stroke
  • Heart attack
  • Pain in legs and loss of legs
  • Ruptured aneurysm

Clinical experts offer professional vascular disease screening in a nationally accredited vascular lab. All tests are performed non-invasively (no needles), painlessly, and quickly (less than an hour for the complete screening package). You’ll also receive artery disease education material.

Who should be screened?
Individuals with the following risk factors:

  • diabetes
  • high cholesterol
  • hyperlipidemia
  • high blood pressure
  • smoking
  • sedentary lifestyle
  • obesity
  • family history of:
    • stroke
    • abdominal aortic aneurysm
    • heart or vascular disease

What screenings are offered?
Package A–Peripheral Artery Screening

  • Test 1- Limited ultrasound test of your carotid artery to look for narrowing or blockage caused by plaque.
  • Test 2 - Limited ultrasound test of your abdominal aorta to look for weakness or a bulge (aneurysm) in the abdominal area.
  • Test 3 - An ankle brachial index measurement of your leg arteries to look for narrowing or blockage caused by plaque.

Package B–Peripheral Artery Screening and Heart Calcium Scoring Screening

  • Peripheral artery screening tests (Package A above) and
  • Heart Calcium computerized tomography (CT) scoring test of your coronary (heart) arteries to look for narrowing or blockage caused by calcified plaque.

How long do the screenings take?
Peripheral Artery Screening
(Package A): 20-30 minutes

Peripheral Artery Screening & Heart Calcium Scoring Screening
(Package B): 30-45 minutes

What is the cost?
The Peripheral Artery Screening
(Package A) cost: $150

The Peripheral Artery Screening with a Heart Calcium Scoring Screening
(Package B) cost: $249

How do I pay?
Credit card or check accepted. You can pay for the peripheral artery screening when registering on the phone or upon check-in. You will pay for the heart calcium scoring screening at the Minnesota Heart Clinic.

For registration call: 952-924-1450 (7:30 a.m. - 9 p.m., seven days a week)

What about my results?
A final report with recommendations will be sent to you and your primary care physician within one week. A Minnesota Vascular Clinic nurse or physician will call you and your primary care physician with critical findings for peripheral artery disease.

Interventional radiologists at the Minnesota Vascular Clinic will read the peripheral artery screening tests. Cardiologists at the Minnesota Heart Clinic will read the heart calcium screening test. The screening does not include a consultation with a physician.

If you have any questions about your results, please call the Minnesota Vascular Clinic at 952-345-4179 or the Minnesota Heart Clinic at 952-915-2437. We encourage you to schedule an appointment promptly with your primary care physician, if you have abnormal results or wish to discuss your risk factors further.

The Fairview Southdale Vascular Screening Program is a collaborative initiative of Fairview Southdale Hospital, the Minnesota Vascular Clinic and the Minnesota Heart Clinic.

Program Screening location/equipment:
Peripheral artery screening is performed in Fairview Southdale Hospital’s accredited vascular lab in the Minnesota Vascular Clinic by technologists who specialize in vascular imaging technology using advanced color flow ultrasound technology. The heart calcium scoring screening is performed in the Minnesota Heart Clinic by seasoned technologists using computerized tomography (CT) imaging done with a state-of-the-art 64 slice scanner.

Insurance:
At present, Medicare does not cover reimbursement for these vascular screening services. We do not file insurance claims through our screening program.

Disclaimer:
These screenings cannot detect all forms of artery disease and do not replace regular contact and follow-up with your physician. If a significant finding is noted in the screening process, it is the patient’s responsibility to follow-up with recommendations.
