Fairview Southdale Hospital’s high-risk clinic, in partnership with University of Minnesota genetic counselors, offers genetic counseling and genetic testing for those who may be at high risk of developing breast cancer. Patients with a strong family history of breast, colon or ovarian cancer may have a genetic mutation, BRCA1 or BRCA2, that puts them at a higher risk of developing these cancers. Our genetic counselors work with patients with assess their risk.

Treatments we offer
If a high-risk is identified, Fairview Southdale Hospital Breast Cancer staff works closely with the patient to develop an appropriate follow-up plan to reduce the risk of developing cancer and to increase the likelihood of discovering a cancer at a stage where it is most curable.
